Let The Gigging Begin...

Not too many reports on the Flounder yet but knowing they could move in any time I had to try gigging. The one thing I always try to do is catch that first hard push of Flounder into the river and the creeks…

Also with the water still a little cool it is clean also. Clean water is a must for Flounder gigging. A minus tide with low at 1am Saturday morning the 10th of April no wind and there was no way I wasn’t going to take a look.

Just like I thought the fish had started moving in. We saw lots of fresh tracks in the areas we gigged. We also saw at least 2 dozen Flounder. The down side was that most of them were small and we picked thru them to boat 7 decent fish with one Flounder in the 5lb range.

So I guess it’s on! Something else there was no shortage of was plenty of nice size Red fish along with some bruisers… There were 2 spots we couldn’t even gig because the large schools of Reds had the water to muddy. I will certainly be fishing those areas hook and line for the Reds this week.

It was great to have the gig in hand once again and I am looking forward to some good gigging this year.
